The color electronic paper? Actually the Story Book inColor is using TFT LCD display, not electronic paper. Obviously the target reader of this eBook is children. Now let’s see closer of this color eBook.

Story Book inColor is about 1.5 cm which is quite thick, so it can certainly stand from all kinds of “torture”. It also has very friendly operating interface. We can see that there has not much buttons except the on/off, ok, and page up/down buttons.

The first one is the picture of volume switch, speaker, USB port and SD card. The second one is a mini USB port for charging.

Although the TFT screen might cause the glare problem, it doesn’t have the time-lag problem as e-paper has. What’s more, it can play video; however, TFT LCD might require higher power consumption.

The interface is a bookshelf which makes you want to touch but you can only use buttons to choose the book you want.

It will play background music and asides, and it also has auto-turn-page function which makes you feel that you are watching a movie rather than reading a book.

This picture above was taken while it’s turning page, and it’s similar to PMP but the resolution seems to be lower.
The color ebook for children is an interesting idea. Although it’s a little bit heavy to an ebook, it’s not design to carry around. The hardware is fine but the software which focuses on children literature might be a limitation or an innovation. Only time and parents can tell.
